HOLY CITY

These images were captured around St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome between April and May, during the transition from the passing of Pope Francis to the election of Pope Leo XIV.

I was there, as I often am when finishing a roll of film, when the bells announced the Pope’s death. I immediately decided to document the days that followed, shooting entirely on film.

As a Roman, I have always wanted to capture historically significant moments, inspired by photographers like Caio Mario Garrubba, and shaped by my memories of Karol Wojtyla’s funeral, where I volunteered at the age of sixteen.

Holy City is my visual record of this unique period of time, reflecting the intersection of faith, history, and everyday life around the Vatican.
